Mobility Assessments.

Move With Confidence.

A mobility assessment evaluates how you move through your environment - at home, in the community, and beyond. Our therapists assess your strength, balance, gait, and functional movement to identify any areas of concern and recommend the right equipment or strategies to keep you moving safely and confidently. This may include referrals for walking aids, wheelchairs, or further therapy.

Our physiotherapists can assess your mobility in the home and community.

We can provide advice on:

  • Assessment of walking pattern and safety in the home.

  • Level of support and safety equipment required when mobilising.

  • Assessment of transfers including bed, chair, floor, bathroom, and car.

  • Balance and risk of falls.

  • Falls prevention and management strategies.

  • Wheelchair or mobility scooter assessment.

  • Community mobility assessment.

  • Mobility or transfer equipment required.

 FAQs

  • Your therapist will assess your strength, balance, coordination, gait, and endurance, and may observe you performing functional tasks such as walking, transferring, or navigating steps. They'll also ask about your daily routine, the environments you move through, and any difficulties or safety concerns you've noticed.

  • A mobility assessment is useful for anyone who has noticed a change in how they move — whether due to injury, illness, ageing, or a progressive condition. It's also valuable for people who are currently using a mobility aid that may no longer be meeting their needs, or for those who are considering mobility equipment for the first time.

  • Recommendations depend entirely on your individual needs and goals. Equipment may include walking sticks, crutches, walking frames, rollators, manual or powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters, or specialised seating and positioning systems. Your clinician will explain the rationale for any recommendation and, where possible, arrange a trial before any equipment is prescribed.

  • Yes. Mobility equipment can be funded under the Assistive Technology category of an NDIS plan. Lower-cost items may be funded directly from your plan, while higher-cost items (such as powered wheelchairs) require a formal AT application supported by a clinical report. Our clinicians are experienced in preparing this documentation.

  • Mobility needs can change, and equipment that suits you now may not suit you in a year's time. We encourage regular reviews to make sure your equipment and strategies are keeping pace with your needs. If your condition is progressive, we can help you plan ahead so there are no gaps in your support.

  • Yes, and in many cases a home visit is preferable; it allows your therapist to assess how you move through your actual environment rather than a clinical setting. We can also conduct assessments in other relevant environments, such as your workplace or a community setting, if appropriate.
